Viña Morandé was founded in
1996, and from the very beginning its people have been working to
change the patterns of a market that is generally considered to be
traditional. To that end they have defined a strategy that clearly
identifies them as an innovative winery, with a wide variety of products
and the best value for money. That is why the winery is constantly
searching for new varieties, new wine-marking techniques, new valleys,
new original designs for their labels, etc.
Backed by the extensive experience
of its chief winemaker, Pablo Morandé, and by the recognition
of the quality of its wines, Viña Morandé is becoming
established as a great brand, moderm and ahead of its time.
It was Pablo Morandé who, at the beginning of the 1980s,
noticed that the Casablanca Valley had similar conditions to those
of the Carneros area of California, thus leading to the most important
discovery of recent times for the Chilean wine market. He was also
the first enologist to use grapes affected by Noble Rot to make
a special wine, called Late Harvest. Today, this constitutes a wine
category in Chile and it is now being produced by many wineries.
Another example of this innovative spirits is their pionnering production
of wine from frozen grape, or Ince Wine, in Chile.
Today Viña Morandé has a wine-making plant in Pelquén
(122 km. South of Santiago) which is considered one of the country's
most modern wineries. It has more than 20 thousand square meters of
buildings, state-of-the-art techomology and a total capacity of 11
million liters in stainless steel tanks. An average of 12,000 tons
of fine wine grapes are crushed there each year, from the valley of
Casablanca, Maipo, Rapel, Curicó, Maule and Itata.
To keep up its reputation and quality, Viña Morandé
ensures rigorous and meticulous control of the vineyards. That means
irrigation, pruning and integrated management, respecting the environment
and guaranteeing the quality of the wine from its genesis.
Viña Morandé is now in the market with a wide variety
of wines, which have received many important awards in local and
international competitions. Morandé is present in more than
25 countries around the world, including England, the United State,
Canada, Japan, and Scandinavia.
To quote Pablo Morandé, "For us, time for change is
an ongoing call, a working philosophy that every day challenges
our spirits of adventure".
