For two decades, Pablo Morandé was one of the leaders of
the team making wines at Concha y Toro, a very well-known Chilean
vineyard. Among his many achievements was the wine Melchor de
Concha y Toro, which was placed 12th out of 5,000 wines by the
magazine Wine Spectator in 1997. This was the first Chilean vineyard
to obtain a rating of over 90 points for one of its wines. Pablo
is currently considered to be one of the best three wine-producers
in Chile.
Pablo has been a pioneer in the numerous and progressive advances
made recently in the production of Chilean wines. He was the first
wine-producer to plant grapes in the Casablanca Valley -
one of the most prestigious Chilean valley appellations, with
a climate and growing conditions that double the famous Carneros
appellation in California. In 1982, and for the next four years,
during which he was considered both crazy and stubborn, he was
the only person in the whole valley to plant vines. Today the
valley has over 4,000 hectares of vines. The main vineyards of
the country followed Pablo´s example and he is now considered
the Pioneer of the Casablanca Valley. In view of his discovery
and his desire to improve the grape-growing process, he is also
known as the "father" of the New Grape-Growing Revolution
in Chile. When Chile first entered the world markets, its wines
were often characterized by a single appellation: Chile. Today,
Pablo is not only making an effort to achieve recognition of the
development of each appellation, but also working tirelessly to
change government regulations in order to reveal the importance
and identity of specific terroirs, vineyards and grape varieties.

Pablo Morandé had a dream and a vision to carry the past
of Chilean wine production into his present perception of "value"
- forwards and upwards to the next level, and even beyond.
By associating with other executives in key areas of Viña
Concha y Toro, he founded Viña Morandé in 1996,
with the aim of redefining the already high standards by which
Chilean wine is judged. The wines of Viña Morandé
are a daring affirmation of the standard of excellence which is
beginning to emerge in Chile. The sense of independence and destiny
found in Pablo Morandé is present in each bottle..
blessed by intuition and touched by certainty.
In October 2002 the Napa Valley signed a "twinning"
agreement with the Casablanca Valley, coinciding with the 20th
anniversary of Pablo's first planting of white grapevines
in the Casablanca Valley . |

He is considered today to be one of the fathers of the New Grape-Growing
Revolution in Chile and also the Pioneer of the Casablanca Valley.
In the United States, Wine and Spirits magazine calls him the
King of Casablanca.
